Are Flip Flops Unhealthy For Your Feet?
Flip-flops, which many people choose in summer on hot days, have various disadvantages for the health of the feet. They cannot support the weight when it occurs and lead to pain. But not only the joints are stressed, learn more about this topic in today’s article.
Flip-flops are not only very popular in the swimming pool, in the hot summer months they are worn by many for a wide variety of occasions, because they are available in all colors and they are quite practical.
Even in ancient Rome, Egypt, Greece or Japan, there were slippers that were very popular because of their comfort. In summer, air gets to your feet and you feel very comfortable in it.
There are simple and also very chic models with rhinestones or pearls – suitable for every taste. But are flip-flops also healthy for your feet?
Problems that can arise from wearing flip-flops too often
1- Stress on the joints
Here, too, the laws of physics apply: reaction – counter-reaction. If the foot is stressed too much when stepping on, as the sole is very thin and not padded, this can lead to pain and strain the joints.
As you can see, walking hard not only has negative consequences for the feet, but also for the whole body. There are also many nerve endings in the feet, which are very stressful in this type of shoe with a hard, thin sole.
2- Lack of protection for the feet
Rubber slippers do not protect the feet. Therefore, injuries, burns, insect bites, etc. can occur. Especially in summer, when it is hot and the sun’s rays are intense, the feet are exposed to various harmful factors.
On the beach, in the swimming pool or in a sports club, the risk of contact with harmful microorganisms is also very high. Slippers cannot protect the feet from pathogens.
As mentioned earlier, these types of shoes could also affect the nerve endings in the feet and affect general wellbeing.
3- skin diseases on the feet
Some skin diseases spread faster in summer because the warmth and increased skin contact as well as moisture make it easy for the microorganisms.
Fungal diseases often arise because mushrooms feel particularly comfortable in a warm, humid environment. Opinions are divided here, however: Some experts recommend open shoes, such as slippers, so that air can get to your feet in summer and no moisture can accumulate.
Others, on the other hand, advise against flip-flops, because with these the feet are more in contact with microorganisms in the water and in the sand. In addition, warnings are given against skin cancer caused by excessive exposure to the sun.
When you consider that the purpose of shoes is to protect your feet, slippers don’t make sense. But with good foot hygiene and sun protection, you can certainly benefit from slippers in summer, as long as you don’t put them on too often.
