Beautiful hair thanks to rosemary!

Why should your hair look more beautiful thanks to rosemary? We’ll explain it to you! The first noticeable effect of rosemary in hair care is the spicy scent that products containing rosemary give your hair. It does not matter in which form you use rosemary in hair care: whether as rosemary oil, rosemary water or rosemary extract.

Products that use rosemary in hair care advertise the following properties in hair care, which are only based on experience and tradition, but are rarely scientifically proven.

  • Rosemary vitalizes the hair,
  • improves the supply of nutrients to the hair roots,
  • reduces hair loss,
  • promotes hair growth,
  • strengthens the hair,
  • ensures a healthy scalp,
  • promotes blood circulation in the scalp,
  • helps against dry, itchy scalp,
  • decreases dandruff and
  • excessive sebum formation.

The mild antibacterial and antifungal properties of rosemary make rosemary oil an effective treatment for inflammation of the scalp and for reducing dandruff. As you can see, it is entirely possible to have beautiful hair thanks to rosemary!

Use of rosemary in hair care

One thing first: please only use pure essential rosemary oil, no fragrance oils with a rosemary aroma! The latter have no effect at all and are nothing more than a chemical “brew” that has more negative than positive consequences for your health.

Never use pure rosemary essential oil (or other essential oils) undiluted on the skin, as this can cause skin irritation! Add the rosemary oil to your shampoo or hair care product, but never use it neat! Thanks to rosemary, the product will smell wonderful even with just a few drops!

If you want to make an infusion , please use fresh sprigs of rosemary if possible and make sure that these are free from pesticides.

For this purpose, collect rosemary from nature, buy twigs or plants from certified organic cultivation or at least rinse them vigorously with plenty of clear water. Then try the following recipes:

Rosemary tonic

For a refreshing hair tonic that is not rinsed out and should be rinsed down to the scalp, you have to make a brew from rosemary. Use fresh sprigs of rosemary and pour boiling water over them.

Let the brew steep until the liquid has cooled to lukewarm temperature. Then pour everything through a fine (tea) sieve to remove rosemary needles and coarser cloudy matter.

You can then pour the tonic directly over your head and massage it into the scalp. Do not rinse! The tonic can be stored in the refrigerator until the next hair wash.

Rosemary Oil Care

If you want to try out the effects of rosemary on your scalp, it’s easy to add rosemary to your regular hair products. Before you apply shampoo, conditioner, or conditioner, mix pure rosemary essential oil into the product and let it sit on your scalp.

Rosemary hair conditioner

If you want to use the advantages of rosemary in hair care, but at the same time also want to give your hair more shine, you can combine rosemary with a little acid. The acid leads to the fact that the fine hair flakes of each individual hair build up and the hair reflects the light better and thus shines.

Add an acid to the rosemary brew described above and prepared according to the instructions. Ideally, you use vinegar for this. The smell will dissipate after drying, don’t worry! If you use lemon juice, however, you should not go into the sun afterwards, as it has a lightening effect on the hair.

Thanks to rosemary and the acid, you will achieve shiny hair!

Rosemary as a bath additive

If you like rosemary in hair care, you can also use the green needles in personal care. A bath in an infusion of rosemary needles has a relaxing, invigorating and vitalising effect. You should therefore not use it if you want to go straight to bed afterwards.

Add a strong infusion of rosemary and water (see description above) to the bath water. Alternatively, add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to the running bath water. Make sure that the water temperature is not too high, so as not to prevent the stimulating effects of the rosemary.
