Treat swelling under the eyes

Puffiness under the eyes, which is often wrongly referred to as bags under the eyes even though it has nothing to do with tears, is unsightly and annoying for many.

The sensitive area under the eyes can swell slightly, especially when you are tired. Often the causes are hereditary predisposition, fluid retention, allergies, a reaction to medication or a lack of sleep.

Surgical intervention is often required for the complete removal of the bags under the eyes. However, there are several natural treatment options that can relieve the swelling and reduce the problem. In this post we present some of them.

Tips to reduce puffiness under the eyes

  • Getting enough sleep:  One of the most common causes of bags under the eyes is fatigue. It is very important to sleep at least 8 hours a day without interruption and to do relaxation exercises. If you sleep too little or poorly, the swelling will not go away even with treatment.
  • Reduce salt consumption:  The consequence of too much salt is fluid retention and then bags under the eyes.
  • Drink water:  At least 2 liters of water a day are also important for general health. If you drink a lot of water, the pollutants and excess fluids can be excreted from the body more easily.  This then also reduces the problem of the bags under the eyes.
  • Consume dehydrating foods:  Dehydrating foods promote digestion and the elimination of fluids.
  • Moisture for the skin:  bags under the eyes can also appear when the skin is too dry and after sunbathing, the skin then becomes thinner around the eyes, as collagen fibers and elastin are destroyed. It is advisable to use sunscreen moisturizers.
  • Do not rub the eyes Frequent rubbing of the eyes can cause skin irritation and consequent swelling.
  • Avoid chemical cosmetics:  Some people experience allergic reactions and puffiness under the eyes when using chemical cosmetics. In this case, these beauty products should be identified and then replaced with mild care products.
